Rain.... always rain (or snow) it seems

Rain
Falling steadily all night
      in a comforting rhythm
in the morning
      leaves me wondering
if I will be able to get my car
up our muddy, gravel driveway.

Curious cat

Lewis
The cat sits atop the printer
looking down with
child-like curiosity
as poems and writings
appear magically--
amid clattering fits and starts--
on pages below him.

Computer down

So sorry, but our home computer has been on the fritz. It seems that our wireless internet-- with apologies for the technical language-- has gone kerflooey. As soon as we can we will get a wireless antennae and I will be back in business. In the meantime, I will have to make do with using public computers for making my posts which may mean they become a little less frequent. But this too shall pass.

One of my favorites

Under A Darkening Sky
Black clouds suspended in front of a blue and pink sky.
Trees are silhouetted against the darkening dusk.
A car, coming out of a turn, focuses its lights on the trees
suddenly revealing a glimpse of hidden colors, shapes and dangers.
But as the car careens around another curve,
night closes in: hiding all again.

Not just for UK sports fans

The Wave
Six buzzards
Sit atop as many fence posts;
A car comes
And as it passes them
Each in turn
Flies away.
Some fly upwards--
Catching wind under their wings, sailing for miles
Or circling back to the post they’d been sitting on--
Others fly down the hill
Towards carrion unseen.

Fire came and,
like every efficient maid,
left nothing but a bit of ash
in what used to be the basement
but is now the only floor
of a place that is no more.

      III
The basement is once again a basement.
An I- beam is set and cross beams
            hold up a new floor.
Walls are going up.
Soon there will be a new “Allen’s”

Lacking fire or catastrophe,
the new building will last as long as the first.

Alas, the new store may not survive.
For while owners and county planners dithered
Dollar General built a new space to sell Corinthians
            Cheaper mayonnaise and,
perhaps,
                                    nuts,
 and bolts  of fabric

A cautionary tale

Just a Bit
The car came into the curve,
just a bit too fast.
The driver hit the brakes,
 just a bit too hard.
The car reacted,
            just a bit too much.
“This can’t end well,”
            the driver thought.
It didn’t.
